Doubling Gap Center’s C&O Canal Bike Weekend
Attention adults! Join us at Camp YoliJwa, October 3-5, 2008, for an offsite bike trek along the C&O Canal in Maryland.
The 60 mile route begins west of Hancock and finishes near Sharpsburg. The dirt trail follows a former mule towpath for the Chesapeake and Ohio canal. Plan to bike between 25-30 miles each day. On the bike trek, members will carry their personal lunch, snacks, water, and necessary gear on their bikes. The remaining gear (tents, sleeping bags, clothes, etc.) will be shuttled to Saturday night’s campsite location by volunteers.
The cost of the weekend will be $100 per person. For more information and/or a registration form, contact the camp at (717) 776-5281 or program@campyolijwa.org .
Angel Food MinistryJoseph and Linda Wingo are the leaders of Angel Food Ministries. Angel Food Ministries is cutting-edge in the food-relief industry. By purchasing top quality food at deep volume discounts, and passing the savings directly to the consumer, Angel Food is providing nutrition to more than 500,000 families. Joe and Linda Wingo’s mission is to provide hope and a hand up to people.
We are looking into the idea of becoming a host site for this ministry for people who live in the 17112 zip code. Currently there are no host sites in this Zip Code. If we qualify to become such a site we will need individuals from the church to sort food and prepare it for distribution. The food is “restaurant grade” meats, frozen vegetables, fruits, dairy products, etc. which is acquire through their involvement with only the best producers/vendors of high quality, “name brand” foods. The food is never “seconds” or “day old” type products. Everyone qualifies for this food.
Angel food ministry says that we will need 1 church helper for ever 10 unites of food that are sold. Angel Food feeds over 500,000 families a month in 35 states. Praise the Lord for his faithfulness! Our first step in this process is to see if we qualify as a host site and we will need a list of individuals from the church who will help sort the food for distribution. Please let Pastor Martin know if you have any interest in knowing more about this ministry or go to http://www.angelfoodministries.com. On the web site they list their menus through July 2008.
Senior Choir
Our senior choir is open to all youth and adults of the congregation who love to sing praises to Jesus. They practice from 8:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Wednesday evenings in the sanctuary. You do not need to have a trained voice to sing in our choirs. You do need to attend the practice hour and be willing to lift up your voice to Jesus. See Trudy Gutshall if you want more information on joining this fun group.
Both choirs (Junior & Senior) will be visiting area nursing homes several times this year and all members are encouraged to attend. These events are very rewarding to the participant and greatly enjoyed by the audiences. Nursing Home visits are currently scheduled for November 4th and December 2nd. 2nd. 2nd.
